How often should I get a massage?

Listen to your body.  Once a week, twice a month, whenever you feel like it is the time to relax, enjoy, re-energize, and refresh.

What will the massage feel like?

A wonderful relaxing Swedish massage is often a baseline for clients. In a general Swedish massage, your session may start with broad, flowing strokes that will help calm your nervous system and relax exterior muscle tension. As your body becomes relaxed, the pressure will gradually be increased to relax specific areas and relieve areas of muscular tension. Often, a light oil or lotion is used to allow your muscles to be massaged without causing excessive friction to the skin. The oil also helps hydrate your skin. You should communicate immediately if you feel any discomfort so that another approach may be taken. Massage and bodywork are most effective when your body is not resisting.

What do the therapists bring to hotels and homes?
A massage table, clean linen, aromatherapy oils, unscented massage oil, lotion, and music.

What Should I do during the massage session?

Prior to the massage, feel free to ask the practitioner any questions about the technique or the upcoming session. During the massage, make yourself comfortable. The practitioner will either gently move you or tell you what is needed throughout the session (such as lifting your arm). Many people just close their eyes and completely relax, communicating if/when they need more or less pressure, another blanket, or anything else relevant to the session. If you have any questions regarding the session or about the particular technique you are receiving, feel free to ask.

Will I be covered during the session?

Most massage and bodywork techniques are traditionally performed with the client unclothed; however, it is entirely up to you what you want to wear. You should undress to your level of comfort. You will be properly draped during the entire session.  You will be properly draped at all times to keep you warm and comfortable. Only the area being worked on will be exposed. It will feel best for the client to be completely unclothed, for the lotions and oils to fully glide on the skin. The clients will be draped to always protect the modesty of the client.

Will the practitioner be present when I disrobe?

The practitioner will leave the room while you undress, relax onto the table, and cover yourself with the clean sheet and blanket provided.

How will I feel after the massage?

Most people feel very relaxed. Some experience freedom from long-term aches and pains developed from tension or repetitive activity. After an initial period of feeling slowed down, people often experience increased energy, heightened awareness, and greater productivity which can last for days. Since toxins are released from your soft tissues during a massage, it is recommended you drink plenty of water following your massage.

Are there any medical conditions that would make massage inadvisable?

Yes. That’s why it’s imperative that, before you begin your session, the practitioner asks general health questions. It is very important that you inform the practitioner of any health problems or medications you are taking. If you are under a doctor’s care, it is strongly advised that you receive a written recommendation for massage or bodywork prior to any session. Depending on the condition, approval from your doctor may be required.

What are the benefits of massage?
Massage and bodywork can help release chronic muscular tension and pain, improve circulation, increase joint flexibility, reduce mental and physical fatigue and stress, promote faster healing of injured muscular tissue, improve posture, and reduce blood pressure. Massage and bodywork is also known to promote better sleep, improve concentration, reduce anxiety and create an overall sense of well-being.

my story on how i became a LICENSED massage THERAPIST

I started to get a regular weekly massage when I was in my late twenties. What brought me to get regular massages was my 10-hour daytime job schedule where I was on my feet all 50 plus hours a week.  Driving home one day I noticed an Asian foot therapy place of business. An Asian foot massage weekly became my norm for me at first.  Then I tried chair massage, salt glows and body wraps!!  The enjoyment of feeling re-energized and relaxed at the same time became my cup of herbal tea wellness program!  Every week I looked forward to my massage sessions and body treatments!  Then I graduated to a table massage. I was hooked for life!!  Swedish, Deep Tissue and Sports massage are what I enjoyed the most until I found out about the art of Esalen calming light touch massage.  Most people are not aware of this feather-light massage modality.

The Esalen calming feather-light touch is a very gentle, soothing massage where the therapist uses long light strokes over the full body.  At first, I didn't think much of it until approximately twenty minutes into my session.  I had ordered a one-hour Esalen feather-light touch just to give it a try.  I closed my eyes as the oriental instrumental Japanese music was playing softly under scented candles.  I was starting to feel tranquility like never before!!

My massage therapist told me afterward she loves giving massage therapy to her customers because it is very therapeutic for her.  Helping people take that special time out for themselves to relax, re-energize, and to get back into enjoying life was her daily ataraxia.

My therapist shared with me that the massage practitioner gives attention to the entire body in this approach, instead of working on sections of the body.  An Esalen massage practitioner uses long, graceful soft strokes to heighten the client's awareness.  Esalen feather-light touch calming massage stimulates sensory nerve endings in the skin, which transmit messages through the nervous system and cause the brain to release endorphins. These are the body's natural painkillers, feel great chemicals that create a sense of wellbeing, enjoyment, and total relaxation!!

When my massage session was over, I felt so wonderfully relaxed and happy! The Esalen massage actually changed my entire mood!!  I was feeling totally amazing!!!  I was feeling okay when I came in to get a professional table massage but now, I felt like I wanted to go out to celebrate!!   I told my therapist thank you!  I can't believe how happy I am feeling and I am calling a few friends and family and I am inviting them out for dinner!!

I offered my massage therapist to come with us but she had another customer scheduled.  The Esalen doesn't just relax you but brings extreme happiness within the mind, body, and spirit!!  It makes a huge difference, especially if you are not in the best mood!  It is the Esalen calming light touch that got my attention!!   We all selected a Dallas restaurant called, Celebration, off of West Lovers Lane between Inwood and Lemmon. The perfect Dallas restaurant name for the perfect occasion.  We all celebrated and toast too, Esalen Massage Therapy!  One of my good friends said aloud, you enjoy getting massage therapy, you should become a massage therapist!  I realized at this point in my life, I would work fewer hours, and make more income helping people enjoy life and relaxation!!

When I returned home,  I first checked out on the internet different therapy modalities and I gave complimentary massages to my family members and friends to see if this is something I would like to do.  I understood my massage therapist who introduced me to Esalen Massage was right on, giving massage therapy is very therapeutic and fun!

This is my story of how I became a professional licensed massage therapist.  Those that suffer from depression, Esalen and massage in general, are extremely good and helpful!

Today I still have a great passion and love for massage therapy and my clients. I love to help people to relax, relieve sore bodies, and enjoy life!
